The Public Access Rules came into force in July 2004 and members of the public are now able, in many circumstances, to instruct a barrister directly. This removes the need to go via a Solicitor, thereby saving members of the public legal costs. The process is very much regarded as the future of our British Legal system. Public Access has been introduced to give the man on the street, value for money and enable people on all financial levels to fight their respective cases in a cost effective manner.
The system allows you the peace of mind to know you can fight your case without extra financial restraints. Please note, some types of cases are not eligible for “Public Access”, but in this event we have access to experts throughout the country who are on hand to assist you in your quest for justice.
If you want further reading, you can download our Bar Standards Board pdf (here) which contains more detailed information about the Public Access Scheme. You can also visit The Bar Council for more information.
Please note : Customers who book direct public access 2 days before a hearing will be charged a sum of £50 + vat. This is because the short lead time causes a significant amount of extra work for our clerks.
